2024 Pee Wee Novello Nero d'Avola
2024 Pee Wee Novello Nero d'Avola
Of all the new “Emerging” varieties that have been planted in McLaren Vale in the last 20 years Nero d’Avola has proven to be one of the most suitable to our climate. The amount of water used to irrigate it is on par with other drought tolerant varieties like Grenache. And for us, to be truly sustainable, not just farming organically/biodynamically the amount water, our most precious resource, we use to get anything to grow is of vital importance.
Bone dry, and made in a novello style we like to drink this wine chilled while wearing a beret as it’s raspberries for days 😊
TASTES LIKE Fresh raspberry, cherries and cherry-cola. Tastes slightly sweet but has fermented bone dry.
DRINK WITH Margarita Pizza and a nudie swim
Vegan friendly

A swift repose on skins sees this race well out of the rosé zone while braking before full red territory. It’s a novello style, as the label states, and a most agreeably mid take on the grape, skirting confection while delivering shimmeringly bright notes of wild raspberry, cherry and pomegranate, hedged with some briar patch herbs and a little white pepper. Chill or don’t – a discreetly effective line of tannin will accommodate either. 91 points. Published 17 September 2024
