A$50.00

Grenache is one of the most produced grapes in the world, cropping in six out of seven continents and is considered by many to be the most consistent icon grape variety in McLaren Vale. We feel privileged to be able to source fruit from the 100 year old, dry grown, bush vine Smart Vineyard in Clarendon. A much sought after site and regarded by many to be the best in the region for its quality and distinctive signature.  Seriously pumped to release this wine.

TASTES LIKE Medium bodied, juicy and bursting with energy. Succulent strawberries, morello cherry with spice and red licquorice. Tannins are fine and powdery. Delicious.

DRINK WITH Peking Duck with all the trimmings. Or grilled figs and blue cheese.

VINGAGE SUMMARY The 2021 will be remembered as one of the most perfect seasons climatically in living memory. Mild conditions persisted throughout summer and we received ideal levels of supplementary rain at exactly the right time. Fruit was harvested in optimum condition for all varieties and our Grenache was no exception

Campbell Mattinson WINEFRONT

This McLaren Vale Grenache was grown on 100 year old, dry grown, bush vines in the Clarendon sub-region. Such sentences roll off the tongue in Australian wine but that makes them no less remarkable.

There’s an energy to this wine, and a texture, and a delicacy, and a power. No more need really be said. There are cherry and strawberry notes, both heat and freshness, roasted spice notes, red licorice, purple flowers and something beneath, something rusty and meaty and from below, or of the earth. The land has giveth something, something juicy, something that’s been so long in the surfacing that it’s taken on rust along the way. Take it from these words that the wine is sound and the wine is good. 94 POINTS.
